Semester 1 Final (15 pts)
Like the last assessment, this is a "whatever you want" project, but with a few guidelines. I want you to use the skills we have learned to date, in one project of your own design. You can refer to the tutorials we have used, and projects we have done, for reference. There is no one way this project should look. I must see that you have used certain tools. Also, you MUST work on the project EVERYDAY. You can NOT "finish early. You will earn one point for everyday you work on the project, for 7 points.
Step 1:
Choose a picture you have taken. You can use today to take pictures.
Step 2:
Do stuff to the picture in Photoshop AND Illustrator. You must use BOTH! I do not care which one you start with. You CAN add images from the internet. I will be happy to scan a drawing if you need me to.
I need to see evidence of (you will also write a short paragraph explaining where/how you used the following tools):

CPS Meme
Knowing the weather outside was going to be bad, I frequently checked the news and social media to see if CPS was going to cancel classes on Monday. What I saw on Twitter was especially funny: in the hours before CPS announced classes were going to be cancelled, students had been posting bleak, impossible, and apocalyptic pictures with the quote '"CPS be like "Classes will resume..."'
You will create your own meme in Photoshop of what would need to happen in order for CPS to actually cancel school. |
NOTE: If you have more than one missing assignment, you can use the next two days for benchmark make-up, and will be excused from this assignment.
Animated Gifs!!!
Below is the tutorial for how we make an animated gif in Photoshop:
http://creativetechs.com/tipsblog/build-animated-gifs-in-photoshop/ NOTE: In Step 2, go to Window->Timeline instead of Window->Animate
Animated GIF #1: Super Powers
For your first GIF, you will give yourself a super power (flight, laser vision, etc). You must use two photographs of yourself, and must animate at least one other object/thing/image. For example, the GIF to the right uses two pictures of myself, and a fireball moves from my mouth off the page (the lasers are extra). You have two days to finish this first animated GIF. Photoshop Specs- Size: 5" x 5" Resolution: 72 pixels per inch Tip: Whatever moves in your GIF will need its own layer! |
Animated GIF #2: Motion
You next GIF will animate a movement in at least 6 steps. 1. Decide on your movement 2. Take pictures of the movement in six steps 3. Open a 6" x 6" document, 72 ppi resolution, in Photoshop 4. Drag your pictures into the document in order of movement (first motion is bottom layer) HOLD SHIFT WHEN YOU FREE TRANSFORM TO FIT THE PIC INTO THE PS DOCUMENT 5. Turn opacity down and line up each layer with the one below 6. Use the eraser and lasso tools to cut pictures as needed 7. Animate frame by frame 8. "Save for Web" and upload to Gmail Drive |
Multiples
|
You will use Photoshop to create a collage of one person in multiple poses and places in one space.
Demo Pictures:

Multiple You project Benchmarks (10 pts)
- At least five pictures of the person (5 pts)
- At least two are interactive (1 pt)
- Clean cuts using polygonal lasso, pen tool, and eraser tool (no visible cuts) (2 pts)
- No "ghosting" or too much of an image erased, not distorted (1 pt)
- Figures do not occupy the same space twice (1 pt)
David Hockney Project
You will be creating two different photo collages based on the artwork of David Hockney.
1) A collage with multiple perspectives of the same object or space. This collage will require you (the photographer) to move around an object to capture multiple angles, or move the camera left-right and up-down to capture multiple angles of the same space.
|
2) A collage showing movement or the passage of time. As the photographer, you stay in the same place, only moving the camera so you can take pictures of every part of the scene. It is the subject that moves as you are taking pictures.

Visual Literacy:
How to look at pictures.
Look a the picture to the left, and answer the questions below. You can work in groups, but you will each have to post your answers on weebly (so you might want to write your answers down on a piece of paper so you don't forget what was said).

Dream Project
You will be creating a composition in Photoshop inspired by a dream you had.
To begin, place a two-column element in weebly. In the column on the left, write about a dream you had. Try to be specific, adding as many details as you can. In the column on the right, make a list of 6 images (objects/places/feelings/colors/people/etc) from the dream. If you can not remember a dream, try checking out the website below. You can read about common dreams and their meanings. Feel free to look at other websites, too. When you find a dream theme that interests you, follow the directions listed above. Write about the theme of the dream in the column on the left, and list six images on the right. Be sure to look at the Dream Dictionary which lists dream symbols by alphabet, and by theme. There are also common themes explained under the Common Dreams tab. Lastly, look at the Dream Bank tab for dreams people have posted to the website for interpretation. www.dreammoods.com/ Remember, dreams often don't make sense, are about impossible situations, and have non-linear narratives. Sometimes we remember only parts of a dream, other times, one dream can have many unrelated parts. All of this can and should be reflected in your project. |
Dream practice pictures:
Dream Benchmarks (10 Points):
- Used two pictures from camera (2pts)
- Blended two images using Modify > Feather (2 pts)
- Blended using the eraser tool with the opacity turned down (2 pts)
- Used the pen tool to make a precise selection (1 pt)
- Cleanly cut edges (2 pts)
- Cut edges are blended (where appropriate) (1 pt)
Look on the Example Page Q2 for the written portion of the assignment.
