Final Project: Dada Collage, Instagram, Illustrator Tracing, or Whatever
You have a choice in what to do for your final exam... you can do a Dada Collage in Photoshop, a series of Instagram tutorials, or you can trace a picture you took with Illustrator. Each project is worth 10 points. You will earn points for each day you work on the project- so no rushing just to get it done!
Option 1: Instagram TutorialsUse five different, original (your own, not from the internet) pictures to complete the tutorials linked below:
1. http://photodoto.com/black-and-white-with-a-splash-of-colour/ 2. http://blog.spoongraphics.co.uk/tutorials/how-to-give-your-photos-a-vintage-polaroid-effect 3. http://blog.spoongraphics.co.uk/tutorials/how-to-give-your-photos-a-dark-processed-lomo-effect 4. http://abduzeedo.com/super-cool-watercolor-effect-10-steps-photoshop 5. http://photodoto.com/how-to-make-instagram-filters-photoshop-earlybird/

Option 2: Dada CollageCreate a "Dada" inspired collage using images found on the internet. The Photoshop document should be US Paper size. The collage must include two dada characters plus background or environment.
I want to see clean cuts! You will use the Polygonal Lasso tool A LOT.
|
Option 3: Illustrator traceYou will choose a picture (a picture you took, not from the internet) to trace and paint in Illustrator.
I will be looking for smooth lines and a moderate amount of detail (not too simple, not too complicated). Points:

Stencils
Stencils are easy to "make" in Photoshop, and are a nice continuation of the mural project we just finished.
Use the files below to follow along with the tutorial.

Murals
Our next project will be a mural. Not a real mural, but more of a mural proposal. The final project will be a combination of a picture you took, and a drawing you made, rendered in Adobe Illustrator.
Some examples of murals can be found here:

Are your lines smooth? Look below:
Here, the lines are smooth. Remember, the less anchor points you have, the smoother your lines will be.
|
Here the lines are not smooth. That is because instead of clicking and dragging to create curved lines, this person made a bunch of anchor points to create the curve. The more anchor points you have, the more bumpy the line.

Public Service Announcement Posters
Your next project will be to create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) poster.
Before you begin, do some research and answer the following questions on your weebly page:
Once you have answered the questions above, think about a topic you would like to address in a PSA poster. (Click HERE for some ideas.) Answer the following:

Additional Criteria your PSA will be assessed by:
- Visual hierarchy- is there a clear focal point? is the intended headline the text perceived first?
- Is your illustration original? Does it reflect your message and headline?
- Do you have consistent spacing in your margins?
- Are there two or less font alignments used?
- Are there three or less fonts used?
- Did you limit your color palette?
- Does your overall design align with your message?
Celebrate Personal History
Our next project is inspired by the Justseeds Artists Cooperative "Celebrate People's History" commemorative poster series.
First: Click here to check out the Justseeds Celebrate People's History posters. Next: Look through the different posters, choose one you like visually. On weebly, place an image plus text element on your page. Upload the poster you like, then answer the following:

Demo
You will recreate the picture on the left in Photoshop...but on your own!
Download the picture files below. Try as best as you can to duplicate the image. I will be looking at your Photoshop file, so no copy and pasting! Hints:

Celebrate Personal History Requirements
In a Photoshop document, US Paper sized, make a commemorative poster to yourself, in the style of Justseeds “Celebrate Peoples’ History” posters by using a photo of yourself and specific Photoshop filters. Here are the requirements for this project:
Remember, the great thing about adjustment layers and layer masks is that they are really easy to change later. This makes it really easy to make big changes to your posters after you think you are done.
In a Photoshop document, US Paper sized, make a commemorative poster to yourself, in the style of Justseeds “Celebrate Peoples’ History” posters by using a photo of yourself and specific Photoshop filters. Here are the requirements for this project:
- Only use one or more of the following filters: Halftone Pattern, Note Paper, Graphic Pen, or Stamp. (no other filter)
- You can choose to do the project in Illustrator (like the Major Taylor poster).
- You can choose to do the project in the style of the Warhol portraits we did (tutorial is still on the 3rd Q page).
- Must use 3 to 4 colors, plus black and white.
- Use color to create enough contrast so that the image is visible, but not too much contrast that it hurts your eyes to look at it.
- Must use at least two pictures, at least one has to come from the camera.
- Include a title (your name) in your poster.
- Include at least 8 sentences (1 paragraph) of text in your poster, explaining your achievement, good deed, or attempt at trying something.
- The text must be readable.
- The text must fit around the image.
- The text must not be distorted.
- If the background is distracting, use a layer mask to eliminate it.
- Use adjustment layers to change colors.
Remember, the great thing about adjustment layers and layer masks is that they are really easy to change later. This makes it really easy to make big changes to your posters after you think you are done.
